January 18 & 19

Much of the last weeks' snow has blown away or melted showing remnants of the fall herb garden — a large patch of lamb's ear is still lively and as soft as ever. Saturday's sunset was warm and still. This short January thaw is almost over. Tonight brings new snow with 6 to 10 inches expected.

Sunday Morning 1.10

Sunday morning was bitterly cold and sun brilliant. The wind the night before had blown most of the foot of snow away from the village and dumped it in 2 - 3 foot drifts down toward the ponds.

Saturday, Dusk

Saturday, January 9th at dusk was freezing. Okay, colder than freezing. 12 degrees with a wild 30 mph wind. Cold but beautiful at the Shaker Village – I intended to tromp down to one of the ponds, but instead hid from the wind in the shelter of the old village. There was a cold, gorgeous sunset. The next morning was even colder.

A New Year — 2010

Hands to Work, Hearts to God is my public record of a year committed to exploring and photographing the change of seasons at the Canterbury Shaker Village, and the town of Canterbury, New Hampshire. As a passionate amateur landscape photographer, I am often shooting away from home, throughout northern New England, especially New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts and Maine. This year as an experiment in diving deeply into one location, I am committing to shooting the 600+ acres of The Canterbury Shaker Village and the surrounding township, Canterbury, NH at least twice monthly. Join me here for the changes witnessed in one year.

The photos in this first post were shot New Years Eve, New Years Day and the day after. It snowed every day, some blizzard conditions. My favorite weather! A good three-day blessing snow.
